It was sheer bedlam when we first walked into Tumblebums last Wednesday with kids yelling, screaming and even a few wails. The little ones ranged in age from about 6 months to 4 years old and as soon as Mason saw them playing he couldn’t wait to get out of his stroller and join in all the fun.
Ahoy, maties! Captain Mason at the helm.
Tumblebums is a local drop-in fun center for little kids that we can walk to near Carrie and Mason’s. What a deal as it only costs $4 to stay and play for as long as you want or as long as your grandparents ears and nerves can stand it.
Learning to share with friends
Among the many amenities at Tumblebums are over 1500 square feet of play area, a cushioned floor, soft play modules, a giant wooden Pirate Ship, wall puzzles, two awesome slides, lots of building toys and a Bouncy Castle! By the time we had spent almost 2 hours in this maze, our little man had visited and played in every single area. I wonder how long we’ll be when we eventually go to Disneyland?
One of the great things I found about Tumblebums was how clean it actually was considering how many little ones were racing around. One of the reasons is that everyone must take off their shoes to keep the floors as clean as possible. That was o.k. though as the floors are padded and comfortable to walk on. There are also several, big, cushy easy chairs for all the really, really old kids to rest, have a cup of coffee and watch the kids play.
There were no loud, noisy electronic games here that I could see. It was all soft padded blocks – big and small which Mason just loved. Lots of big, bouncy, colored balls and padded, sloped ladders for little guys to crawl-up and then slide down the easy, safe plastic chutes.
One of Mason’s favourites was the Magic Mirror. He loved putting his hand in front of the mirror and seeing it reflected as a really big giant hand.
It sure was a great place for kids to learn to play together and practice a few social skills. Some of the little boys aged 3 or 4 were a bit more aggressive than the little ones but the others all seemed to recognize that and acted accordingly. It’s fun to watch and see how they all adapt to one another and establish their own “pack rules”.
Mason likes to clap his hands when he does something good
There’s also a cooler in the play center where you can buy healthy treats and juice for the kids. I did see a few parents and grandparents buying juice and treats but all of the little guys seemed way to busy to stop for something to eat.
Now, I’ve done it….I’m trapped.
Another big attraction for Mason were the big, plastic Lego-like squares for building Castles. There was a long tunnel that led into his little castle and he loved crawling through the tunnel to get in – then crawl out – and then back in…..until something new caught his eye. It’s going to interesting and fun when Mason begins to talk so I can maybe understand what’s going through his mind while playing.
Thanks for visiting!
