A Wild Windstorm Knocks Out Power In The Cowichan Valley

A wild windstorm swept through the Cowichan Valley Thursday morning knocking down trees like matchsticks and taking with them power  lines and poles along with electricity for 40,000 residents.  Our power went off at 11am and it's now 10am Friday morning and power is still out.  Luckily, the wicked winds came from the south off the Pacific Ocean and brought mild mid-60's F temperatures with them.   The latest estimate for power restoration is 6pm Friday - I hope it's earlier.

The gas fireplace in our family room still worked so we are toasty warm and had lots of battery powered lighting too.  Fortunately, to keep from going totally mad, we still have cell service so our iPhones and iPads are getting a good workout.  We are keeping our devices charged by plugging them into the Honda Civic's handy USB charger.

I went for a quick drive this morning and saw several BC Hydro Power crews working close to us.  The guys worked all day yesterday and right through the night to to repair the hundreds of local outages caused by the windstorm. They are working hard so no complaints here. We are able to follow their progress from their website so at least we know minute by minute where they are and what they're working on.

At least we had no damage here so all's good!

Thanks for visiting!
