Microsoft is being uncharacteristically quiet about this Tuesday, August 12th rollout of its Windows 8.1 Update 2. In fact, they are downplaying the whole update thing by simply calling this event “August 12th Update Tuesday” The update will include touchpad tweaks and allow Windows 8.1 devices to act as Miracast receivers. The touchpad tweaks will allow you to keep the touchpad turned on, even after you attach a secondary mouse/pointing device. I like that idea!
Windows 8.1 Update 2 rollout – Tuesday, August 12, 2014
The good news is that just like the 8.1 Update 1 this one is also free – and, painless, I think! In fact, you won’t have to do anything at all as this update will rollout automatically during scheduled Windows Updates. To accommodate the large task of updating millions of operating systems it make take a few days for your computer to be updated.
If you’re impatient, like me, then you can go to the Windows Update in Control Panel and choose to install it manually. That’s what I’ll be doing first thing Tuesday morning and I’ll report back in tomorrow’s blog about how it went and on any important changes.
Windows 9 is coming in the spring of 2015 – it could be a blockbuster!
While many folks still seem focused on whether or not to upgrade to Windows 8.1, Microsoft is not sitting still as they’ve been working rapidly on the new Windows 9 code named “Threshold”. Preliminary Builds of the OS have already been previewed and a full Beta version is expected later this year. Once that’s done and the results reviewed Microsoft is expected to deliver Windows 9 in the spring of 2015. This new OS is expected to be more desktop friendly but will still stay committed to touch screen technology. Aren’t you all just thrilled to hear this news? I can’t wait!
Thanks for visiting!
