Idiot Of The Day – GOP Staffer Trashes Obama Daughters

lauten

In an online rant that will go down as one of the more spectacular examples of bad judgment in recent political history,  Elizabeth Lauten, the communications director for U.S. Rep. Stephen Fincher (R-Tenn.), flipped out on Facebook over the first daughters, Sasha (13) and Malia (16) Obama:

Dear Sasha and Malia: I get you’re both in those awful teen years, but you’re a part of the First Family, try showing a little class”.

Then for good measure she added this little ditty and “dress like you deserve respect, not a spot at a bar.”  Here’s Lauten’s full Facebook post:

Before I go on, let me just say this so readers don’t think this is just another anti-GOP tirade on my part. I found it just as outrageous when Democrat spin-doctors attacked Jenna and Barbara Bush when they were in college and acted just like every other normal, inquisitive teenager when they accompanied friends to a local bar for a drink while underage. If that isn’t a ‘rite of passage’ for kids attending college then what is. George and Laura Bush are exemplary parents and both Jenna and Barbara have grown to be responsible, intelligent adults. Kids are off-limits!

The Obama daughters outfits that enraged GOP’er Lauten.  What the heck?sasha-malia-obama-thanksgiving-pardon-classless-gty-3

Not satisfied with trashing Malia and Sasha, Lauten then foam-mouthed at Barack and Michelle Obama saying “your mother and father don’t respect their positions very much,” Lauten continued, “or the nation for that matter, so I’m guessing you’re coming up a little short in the ‘good role model’ department.”  So, let me get this right, does Elizabeth Lauten think that by recklessly going after minors she’s some kind of good role model as a communications director for a US Congressman?

While awaiting Rep. Fincher’s decision on whether or not Elizabeth Lauten will still have a job come Monday morning the Internet was ablaze with immediate outrage and condemnation of her remarks. A storm of pushback hit Lauten and shortly after posting her rant she deleted it, set her profile to be private, and issued an apology: Even her apology was met with derision as being totally insincere.  Here it is:

Lame Apology:  Lauten doesn’t even know how to sincerely apologizeelizabethlauten1

No where in her non-apology does Lauten use the simple words “I’m sorry”.  Even more egregious is the fact that she only apologizes for the “post she made on FB earlier today judging Sasha and Malia Obama” instead of apologizing directly to the girls themselves. If Lauten really feels sorry and wanted to issue a sincere apology it should have read “I want to apologize to Sasha and Malia Obama for a post I made on Facebook earlier today”. How is this woman a communications director?

I can just imagine my daughters saying “this is so embarrassing”!obama-turkey-pardon

Elizabeth Lauten seems to be the only person who was outraged by what everyone else took as perfectly normal behavior for teenage daughters – rolling eyes, arms crossed is pretty minor stuff given that they were standing with their Dad while he was on national television, making lame jokes while pardoning two live turkeys named Mac ‘n Cheese.  C’mon man!  I ask you Dad’s out there – how would your teenage daughters have reacted if it were you?  This was pretty harmless stuff.

This whole stupid episode reminded me of the 2012 Olympic Games when US Olympic Gymnast Mikayla Muroney’s photo went viral when she gave her famous “Winning the Silver Medal Sucks” frown. Just a teenage girl being a teenage girl, right? I loved it and so did millions of others all over the world. I also love the look on Malia Obama’s face as she struggles mightily to contain teenage indifference while her whole being is just screaming “get this whole thing over with, please, Dad!!”  Teenage daughters – gotta love ‘em!!

UPDATE:  Elizabeth Lauten out.  The communications director for U.S. Rep. Stephen Fincher (R-Tenn.) submitted her resignation Monday morning. No surprise there at all.

Thanks for visiting!
