Q. Joe I just received your email and it is in
color. I would like to print it in black rather than using color ink. Is there
a quick fix?

A. Go to File, Print, Preferences, and select
Print Color Images in Black and White.

=======================

Q: What is the difference between hibernate and sleep.

A: Sleep stores your computer's state in its memory. Starting up is fast, but if power is lost, the
memory is wiped.

Hibernation
stores everything on the hard drive and then shuts down the computer. But it
isn't susceptible to a power failure.

----------------------------------

Q. Joe, I have forgotten how
to determine what Version of Internet Explorer I have installed. Can you
help?

 A. Open Internet
Explorer: at the top click on Help, then click on
About Internet Explorer, and it will show you the version. This works for the version
of any program you have.

Q: When I drag and drop
files, how do I know what is happening to them? Are they being moved, copied,
or is Windows just creating a short cut?

A: 1.
" + " sign in a little white box, the file is being copied.

2. An arrow, Windows is creating a shortcut .

3. Nothing at all, the file is being
moved.

Q. What type of anti-virus software do you
recommend?

A. I highly recommend Microsoft Security Essentials it provides
real-time protection for your home PC that guards against viruses, spyware, and
other malicious software.

I’ve
been using since its Debut in January 25, 2010. Several people in my computer
class have nothing but nice things to say about it.

Window 8 comes with the
anti-virus already installed, it is called Windows Defender, it is
Microsoft Security Essentials kissing cousin.

From
WorldStart:
How does a surge protector work?

Answer: A surge is a
term for when the voltage exceeds the standard 120V for longer than 2
nanoseconds. Common causes of surges are lightning strikes, cycling of high
energy demand appliances/systems and power delivery system failures.

A surge
protector has a circuit design which works normally at regular household
voltages but once a surge happens will divert the extra power to the ground
plug in the power outlet.

A. Glad you enjoyed the class.

If you are in the Desktop area you will have an X at the top right. If you are in the Tiles area you slide your cursor to the top of the page and the arrow will change to a hand, left click and drag it to the bottom and it will close.

Response: Tried it and it works!! Thank you so much.

Have a great day.

Hi Joe,

What security do you recommend for TWC? Is it free? Thanks,

A. I use Microsoft Security Essentials for Windows 7, you must download this. and its first cousin Windows Defender which comes installed in Windows 8.

I do not use what insight recommended, it slowed the computer down and I think TWC offering might do the same and all of the these are free.

Anyway the two I mentioned are great and will take care of emails, internet, and anything else. I’ve had no problem with them and have heard of no classmate having a problem.

A. Click on the Start button, type Internet options in the blank and hit Enter, you get this screen.
